Before you continue reading take a moment to reflect and ask yourself
"How do I give myself self care?" and "How do I give myself self love?"

Having goals keeps us moving forward and gives us direction in our lives. When we do not have goals, we have nothing to reach for daily. Now, I know that living with seizures that sometimes we cannot work or that some activities are simply out of the question. It seems so simple to ask for something directly yet we don't always ask even when it is detrimental to our health. When we are taking action steps to raise or keep our seizure threshold high we sometimes have to ask for what we need. Nobody is a mind reader so we must ask directly.
For example, have you ever been in someone else’s home and something there is beginning to get to you but you didn’t say anything. Maybe it was a flickering light, an aroma or maybe t...Read Full Post »

I like to think of our lives as a 1,000 piece puzzle and seizures are one piece of that puzzle. It is when we only see that one piece that we feel defeated. When we actively look at the other puzzle pieces that we realize that we are so much more. It is when we focus on the other 999 puzzle pieces that make us who we are that we begin to see that seizures are only one piece of the puzzle that we live with. They are not our identity.
What if I don't know what those other puz...Read Full Post »

A huge step we can take in finding freedom is taking responsibility for our own self care. We hold the key to our lives and as soon as we look within instead of to places, people or things we will find freedom in our lives. We are powerful and we can take responsibility for ourselves while giving the ones we love space to do the same.

Meditation is not all created equal which may be why what little research there is on the effects of meditation on seizures/epilepsy is contradicting. Because meditation is not a rigid black and white process, in my opinion, there are as many forms of meditation as there are people. When one form of meditation is not right for us there is always another to try. The only way to know is to experiment. Don’t give up!
When we medita...Read Full Post »

Every time we pick up a magazine or do an internet search we are bombarded with what we are supposed to eat or not eat and fat has been one of the greatest enemies of all. But what if I told you that healthy fat is actually your brains best friend? Some claim that they have gained seizure control, migraine headache relief and have been able to lower and even eliminate anti-seizure medications. So often we as human beings search for happiness from something outside of ourselves, when really we must go inside of ourselves to find true happiness. Sure, if we buy a new house, car, new clothes or even spend time with someone who makes us feel good, we feel happiness for a brief time but it dissipates quickly if we are not happy from within. True happiness is a way of being with yourself and in the world. So, how can you feel happy fro...Read Full Post »

Myth #1 I can’t be hypnotized.
Truth: Everyone can be hypnotized assuming they are willing and are capable of relaxing and concentrating. Everyone goes through a hypnosis stage every time they go to sleep and every time they wake up.Read Full Post »
